Community Charter School of Cambridge is a public, tuition-free, college preparatory middle and high school located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, U.S.. The school serves students in grades 7-12. The Lower School, primarily serving grades 7 through 9, is located at 245 Bent Street. The Upper School, grades 10 through 12, is located at 247R Bent Street. With a portion of the seats reserved for students living in Cambridge, the school accepts students from Boston, Somerville, Arlington, Belmont and many other cities and towns in the Boston-Cambridge area as well. The Head of School is Paula Evans.
A typical course load for all students includes math, science, Spanish and Humanities in grades 7-10; in the 11th and 12th grade, English and history are separate courses. Instead of Spanish, some students take Learning Lab, a course intended to help support students on Individualized Education Plans or 504 plans. All students have an advisor whom they see daily and meet with in long blocks twice a week. DEAR (Drop Everything and Read) is a daily part of the program, with all faculty and students reading silently for 30 minutes, four times per week. This year CCSC has as well a full-time art teacher.
Seniors are involved in an internship in the larger community during their second semester, supervised by CCSC faculty and a mentor from the internship site. Last year seniors completed internships at Massachusetts General Hospital, Google, Cambridge Ellis Nursery School, Margaret Fuller House, Cambridge Landscaping, and the Harvard Square Business Association—among other sites..
